Audio-file transcription turns an existing recording into text. It is different from dictating a new email: the words already exist in the file, and your job is to extract and review them.

LoQuill's Transcribe workflow processes recordings on the Mac. It provides a starting point for working with a voice memo, recorded explanation or other audio you already have, rather than sending the file to a separate remote transcription service.

Start with a short recording

Use a small, non-sensitive file for the first test. Choose one you can listen to yourself and whose words you can reasonably check.

Open LoQuill's Transcribe section and use Browse files or drop the recording into the file area. The interface lists M4A, MP3, WAV, MP4 and MOV. A video needs an audio track; a filename ending in a supported extension does not guarantee its actual contents are valid or decodable.

If a file fails, read the displayed error and first check that it plays normally. Keep the original file safe. Do not delete or overwrite it while trying to obtain a transcript.

Have the models ready first

Initial activation and model downloads require internet. Finish that setup before testing a local transcription workflow without a connection.

File duration and dictation duration are different workloads. A short successful dictation does not establish the time needed for a long recording. Let the app report real progress and errors rather than assuming a fixed speed or a promised completion time.

Review the recognized text

Read the output while listening to important sections of the audio. Focus on names, numbers, dates and phrases that affect meaning. If the recording contains overlap, background noise or unclear words, give those sections extra attention.

A readable paragraph is not proof of a faithful transcript. Mark uncertainty when you cannot establish what was said instead of guessing a word because it would make the sentence sound better.

Check both the beginning and the end of the file. For a longer recording, also spot-check sections through the middle. A correct opening sentence does not prove the entire recording was processed completely.

File transcription does not run writing cleanup

In the current release, newly imported recordings produce recognized text without the AI writing-cleanup step used for dictation. There is no raw/cleaned toggle for a newly imported recording. Review the transcript against the audio before editing or sharing it.

Do not silently treat a rewritten draft as a verbatim record. If you share it, say whether it is a transcript or an edited version. Keep the original recording available where appropriate for your workflow.

Export only after checking the content

Export to text, Markdown, PDF or a Word document. Choose a format that fits where the reviewed transcript will go next, and open the exported file to confirm the text is present and readable.

This document workflow does not provide timed subtitle export. Do not assume a text document is an SRT subtitle file or that export adds accurate speaker labels and timecodes. Those are separate capabilities to check if your task requires them.

Working with a meeting recording

An existing meeting recording is a file-transcription task. Automatically capturing a call, identifying each speaker and producing an action list are separate tasks. Importing a recording does not by itself supply those additional features.

If those features are essential, evaluate the whole meeting workflow rather than treating “transcription” as a complete meeting-assistant promise. Use recordings you are authorized to process and follow the rules of the organization or context where they were created.

Keep the final destination in mind

Local transcription does not control what happens when you save the exported document to a cloud-synced folder or send it to another service. Choose the destination deliberately, just as you would for text created by typing.
